Vin Diesel asked Dwayne Johnson to rejoin Fast & Furious in the tenth and final installment of the series.
He shows up after a very public quarrel between two Hollywood heavyweights.
In an Instagram post, Vin said The Rock had “a very important role to play,” adding that his Hobbs character could not have been played by anyone else.
“I hope you will rise to the occasion and fulfill your destiny,” wrote Vin, who plays the lead role of Dominic Torreto.

The Rock (aka Dwayne Johnson) joined the Fast & Furious franchise as Agent Hobbs in Fast Five in 2011 – but the 49-year-old hasn’t appeared in the latest movie and has previously said he won’t be appearing in future movies.
Vin Diesel wrote to his 76 million followers that he wanted to fulfill his promise of a perfect ending to “Pablo” – referring to his partner Paul Walker, who died in 2013.
“I swore we would achieve and manifest the best Post in the final, which is 10! I say it out of love… but you have to show up, ”said the 54-year-old.
Calling him “Dwayne’s little brother,” he asked him not to leave the “franchise idle.”
What happened between them?
You may be wondering what went wrong between two people who were part of one of the most successful series in history, and even called themselves “family.”
This has been described by their partner Ludacris as “a delicate situation”.
The pair clashed with each other – The Rock confirmed that they did not shoot any scenes for The Fate of the Furious together.
One of the scenes in the 2017 movie featured both actors – but that’s only thanks to clever editing.
In the last week of filming for this movie, The Rock posted a message on Instagram denouncing the co-star (whom he did not mention at the time) for not “acting like stand-up men and true professionals.”
Turns out he meant Vin Diesel.
In an interview with Vanity Fair last month, The Rock said that almost “every crew member came to me and either silently thanked me or sent me a message.”
He said he regretted publishing – but meant everything he said.
It was reported that there was later a peace meeting that The Rock said was not actually a “peace meeting”.
“I would call it a meeting of clarity. He and I had a good chat in my trailer and it just became crystal clear from that conversation that we were two separate ends of the spectrum. “
WWE legend Dwayne Johnson said he and Vin Diesel are “philosophically two different people, and we approach filmmaking in two very different ways.”
Over time, Vin commented on the situation.
He said their differences boiled down to being two alpha males, adding that he “protected Dwayne more than ever, but he appreciates it.”
The dispute seemed to have cooled down in September 2019 – following the success of the Hobbs & Shaw spinoff, and The Rock thanked Vin Diesel for supporting the video in the Instagram video.
But it was re-ignited in June 2021 when, in an interview with Men’s Health, Vin Diesel said any conflict between the couple was due to his approach to getting the most out of The Rock’s acting.
“My approach at the time was a lot of hard love to help get this show where it should be,” he said.
“This is something I’m proud of, this aesthetic. It took a lot of work. We had to get there and sometimes at that time I was able to give a lot of hard love. “
Responding in his recent interview with Vanity Fair, The Rock said he “laughed hard” when he read it.
“I go into every project, doing my best. And if I feel there are certain things that need to be solved, taken care of, and cared for, then I do.
“And it’s just that simple. So when I read it, as did everyone else, I laughed. “
Fast & Furious 10 is due to be released in April 2023 – and The Rock has yet to respond publicly to Vin Diesel’s request.
