The MOBO Awards announced their show in 2021, which will be a live event for the first time since 2017.
The awards, celebrating black music since 1996, will be held in Coventry on December 5, and fans will be able to attend in person.
Like many other events, the MOBOs were held online last year due to the coronavirus pandemic.
In last year’s socially distant program, Mahalia and Nines won two awards each.
Organizer Kanya King says the awards will be “the highlight of British black culture this year”.
“In 2020, we proudly accomplished the unthinkable with a global pandemic prize show, which was no easy feat.”
Coventry is the current British City of Culture.
In 2020, Mahalia took home Best R & B / Soul and Best Women and Nines, winning Best Album and Best Hip Hop Artist.
Aitch picked Best Newcomer from Young T, and Bugsey received the Best Song Award for Don’t Rush.
The previous winners are also Stormzy, who won three awards in 2017, and Kano, who won the best album in 2016.
Other names honored in recent events include Krept & Konan, Nicola Adams, Skepta, Lenny Henry, Mrs. Dynamite, and Sam Smith.
The two people who will be at this year’s MOBO are A1 x J1.
They met on the Houseparty app during the blockade in March 2020, forging musical ties and gaining popularity on TikTok – eventually reaching second place on the UK charts with their song “Latest Trends”.
This is a special moment for the A1, which comes from Coventry.
“It shows that the Coventry music scene has come a long way. Eventually she gets the recognition she deserves. So being a part of it is just amazing, ”says Radio 1 Newsbeat.
They watched MOBO grow up, and J1 called Stormzy the inspiration and reason he wanted to start rapping.
A1 enjoyed the performances of Krepta and Konan at the awards ceremony, adding “just seeing it motivated me to participate in the MOBO”.
They are counting on a nomination – and it is not confirmed whether they will perform at the ceremony.
But just being at an awards show, they grew up watching “shows that anything is possible,” according to A1.
When will it be on?
The ceremony will take place on Sunday, December 5 at the Coventry Building Society Arena.
It will be broadcast live on YouTube and BBC One will be broadcasting a behind-the-scenes program with interviews and performances.
BBC Radio 1Xtra will also cover the awards, and DJ Target programs will feature weekday performances and interviews with this year’s nominees and winners.
The performers, hosts and nominees will be announced in the coming weeks.
