Raphael Varane is expected to support Manchester United’s defense

Manchester United have agreed a £ 41m fee with Real Madrid for defender Raphael Varane.

The price for the French international is believed to include £ 41m in additions and the agreement is expected to go through, subject to a medical examination.

After England international Jadon Sancho had already signed for £ 73m from Borussia Dortmund, Varane ‘s build-up would be another statement of United’s intent.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side were second in the Premier League last season but finished 12 points behind Manchester City.

Varane is established as one of the world ‘s top defenders, having joined Real from French side Lens in the summer of 2011.

He has gone on to more than 350 appearances for the club, and has been caught 79 times by France, helping them to 2018 World Cup glory.

He started four French games at Euro 2020 before being penalized by Switzerland.

If the deal goes through as expected, Varane’s first competitive action for United could come when they begin their Premier League campaign on August 14 against Leeds United at Old Trafford.

‘One of the best defenders in Europe’
Analysis from Spanish football expert Terry Gibson, reports on Sky Sports News:

“If Man Utd get Varane across the line, they are buying one of the best top defenders in Europe. Real have been outstanding from day one, he has the qualities to you need to and it has been watched a bit because of Sergio Ramos.

“But in terms of quality, I don’t think it’s much better than Varane.”

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer maintains that Paul Pogba is always professional despite speculations about his future at United

Pogba future up in the air
Paul Pogba is one player at United with an uncertain future. It is ‘increasingly unlikely’ to sign Manchester United’s new contract extension amid interest from Paris Saint-Germain.

Talks between Pogba and United representatives failed to find a secret with reports that a concrete offer was rejected by a French midfielder.

The 28-year-old has entered the final year of his current contract and United now have to decide whether to sell him in the summer or let him see his contract.
