Actress Gal Gadot said a viral video she and some Hollywood stars made at the start of the epidemic was “bad-tasting.”
The video shows the 36-year-old partner singing along with a line from John Lennon’s 1971 single Imagine.
Jamie Dornan, Kristen Wiig and Will Ferrell took part in a stunt that was widely ridiculed on social media.
Gadot told InStyle that “everything was pure intent, but sometimes you can’t hit a hit.”
When the video was released, fans criticized it as deaf and despicable.
At a time when many were alarmed by the coronavirus epidemic, many said the A-list stars who were making videos in their castles had not been in contact with each other.
Wonder Woman star Gadot said the video was “early” in retrospect.
“I called Kristen [Wiig] and I said,‘ Listen, that’s what I want to do, ’” the actress explained. “The pandemic was in Europe and Israel before it reached [the United States] in the same way.
“I saw where everything was going. But [the video] was early. The timing wasn’t right, and it wasn’t the right thing. It tasted bad.”
“It’s just pure intent, but sometimes you don’t hit the bullet, right? I felt like I wanted to get some air out of it, so it was a great opportunity to do that.”
Amy Adams, Natalie Portman, Mark Ruffalo, Chris O’Dowd, singer Sia and model Cara Delevingne were among the other stars who participated in the video.
It has been viewed on Instagram more than 10 million times since March 2020.
All the celebrities were sung from the Lennon hit and then the clips were stitched together.
Podcast presenter Joe Rogan called the participating celebrities “idiots” for recording the video while “everyone’s grandmother is dying.”
However, Belfast star Dornan defended Gadot against critics, saying he was “trying to do a good thing”.
